Good Backup Practices

These good backup practices have been developed to ensure the reliability and integrity of your websites. Make sure you “re-visit” this page at least once per month.

Bookmark this page now! Visit once per week or per month at the latest! Follow the steps in our Good Backup Practices for the best results.

If you haven’t already, complete the following steps:

cPanel > Full Website Backup

1) Log into cPanel
2) Make a Full Website Backup
3) Download the Backup to your Local Machine
4) Remove the Backup from the Web Server

 

cPanel > Backup > Download Home Directory

1. Login to cPanel

2. Download a Backup of Your Home Directory

3. This file should automatically be saved to your ‘Downloads Folder’ during the download process.

4. Move the backup file to a safe location on your computer.

 

cPanel > Backup > Download Database(s) 

1. Login to cPanel

2. Download a Copy of all of Your Databases

3. These should automatically be saved to your ‘Downloads Folder’ during the download process.

4. Move them to a safe location on your computer.

 

Make a full backup at least once a week. It is always best to make a backup before making any major changes to your website (especially if you are using a Popular CMS (Content Management System) like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Prestashop etc.) as well as after. Make a separate backup of your databases. Download these backups to your computer and remove them from the file server to save space and ensure the backups are safe.
